The Democracy That Delivers podcast is about democratic and economic development and the intersection between the two. Through their personal stories, guests share how their work is helping build stronger democratic institutions in countries all over the world and how they are tackling some of the major governance challenges that many countries face today. The weekly discussion covers a wide range of topics including entrepreneurship, governance, rule of law, and the role of the private sector in democratic processes.

Adam Sachs and Leila Zarifi from CIPE’s own Global Programs department join co-hosts Autumn Moore and Zoe Watkins on Democracy that Delivers’ “Emerging Leaders” mini-series featuring up-and-coming change-makers. We explore their team’s unique mission to incubate solutions for universal challenges, such as digital transformation and youth engagement. In the inaugural episode of a new Anti-Corruption & Governance Center podcast series on Private Sector Collective Action hosted by Katya Lysova, two experts on compliance and international trade talk about one of the largest and most sophisticated international anti-corruption coalitions in the world: the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN). Cecilia Müller Torbrand, who is MACN’s CEO, joins Ann Shazell, a Global Lead Lawyer at Cargill International and MACN’s Vice Chair discuss how public-private collaboration is crucial to combatting corruption in sea-based trade. With CIPE Senior Program Officer Lysova, the guests tackle the need for global NGOs to recognize collective action organizations as an effective anti-corruption strategy. They share how MACN is using data to analyze the types and scale of corruption in the global maritime sector.

Dr. De Mel discusses Sri Lanka’s debt crisis, Sri Lankan government's response to the crisis, nation-wide and global protests calling for a change of leadership and immediate relief through suspension of debt repayment, and immediate, medium term and long term steps that will help Sri Lanka emerge out of this situation.

In the second episode of the podcast mini-series on resilience, CIPE speaks with the Philippine LGBT Chamber of Commerce (PLCC), an organization dedicated to advocating for policies that support the needs of LGBT-owned businesses. Chairperson of PLCC, Ronn Astillas, will outline the impact of the pandemic on LGBT-led businesses and highlight its work supporting members to become more resilient. PLCC will also share its recent advocacy efforts that support economic recovery in the lead up to the national elections, while also exploring how inclusion should be prioritized across efforts focused on economic resilience and recovery.

In times of crisis, the ability of local private sector organizations to weather disruptions so that they can effectively support their members and contribute to economic renewal is essential. During this podcast, CIPE will speak with William Pawlucy from Association Options and Ines Pearce from Pearce Global Partners Inc. The podcast will explore key factors that help foster the resilience and sustainability of local private sector organizations, such as business associations and chambers of commerce, and how they can help strengthen the resilience of their member businesses. This podcast is the first episode of a series titled, “Strengthening Resilience: Global Perspectives.”
